چکیده

Background: Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) in pregnancy has been found to be associated with adverse outcome various observational studies. Evidence from randomized control trials is necessary change current recommendations. Aims and Objectives: We conducted controlled trial assess the effect of supplementation on outcome. also looked for predictors VDD as universal testing neither recommended nor available. Materials Methods: Consecutive pregnant women at 12–16 weeks gestation were invited participate study. Eligible assessed potential risk factors (serum concentration <20 ng/dl). Serum 25-OH levels checked. At 20 gestation, consenting (n=297) receive either 60,000 IU (n=151) orally daily 5 days or placebo (n=146). Maternal fetal outcomes compared between two groups by intention-to-treat analysis. Results: Out 304 eligible women, 92% had VDD. Mean was 10.04±6.03 ng/dl. lower among living urban areas (P=0.001) having sun exposure time (P=0.013). showed negative correlation socioeconomic score (ρ=−0.131; P=0.023) BMI (ρ=−0.112; P=0.05). In group, longer duration labor than replete ones (P=0.031). No significant difference observed respect maternal outcomes. effects observed. Conclusion: highly prevalent women. It significantly labor.
